KindHearts Low-Income Community Outreaches is an important part of our initiative, as it allows us to reach out to indigent residents to sensitize, educate, correct misconceptions, conduct free vitals and cancer screenings, and distribute relief items.
The outreach started with a Film Show on the first day, because we believe “What you hear you forget; what you see, you remember; what you do, you understand.” The movie night was educational and entertaining, with an interactive question section that clarified misconceptions.
The second day started with sensitization and awareness discussion, during which residents of the Ago-Egun community were taught how to self-examine their breasts, as well as the signs and symptoms to watch out for.
Beneficiaries then proceed to have their vitals checked. 50 women were screened for breast and cervical cancer.
A successful screening exercise was carried out, 14 women were positive for lesions on their cervix and no woman with a breast lump was identified.
Relief items such as clothing, blankets, school bags were among the supplies distributed to residents. This outreach was in partnership with Lagos State Primary Health Care, Bariga, and Optimal Cancer Care
